Evaluation

Since I had experience of using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premier, so I found it easy to do the work and to catch up any missing work when I was away.

What I would do differently next time:-
  • To plan out the time, because I am behind and off sick alot.
  • To plan out the design first, because I had too many ideas and keeps on changing my design, if I plan it out first next time, then I wouldn't have had wasted so many time on changing and changing.
  • To keep the logbook up to date.
What I think I've done well:-

  • Since I am good at Adobe Photoshop and Adove Premier, I can do and follow the work easily, as well as helping others with their work.
  • I think my ideas are good of promoting a group, differnt to the others.

Video

The video is 1 minute and 18 seconds long, it contains footages from their music video, dvd magazie and music video making, I have cut these videos and put them together.

There are 2 music tracks and 23 videos used in my own video.

Video Information
First, the group will introduce their group name and the DVD title, while the first music track will be playing at the background, it will be quiet start off quiet to loud,  then you can see titles are added to introduce every members name, as well as other titles to decribe what's included in the DVD, such as behind the scenes, interviews and unseen concert clips, then music will start to fade out, another music will fade in, this time will be matchd with the clip because I will then put a preview of their 44th Single music video, and at the end an image of the group will appear and an other title that says when the DVD are going to be release. The DVD title logo are placed at the top left corner in every scene.

Setting up the Project
Here are my settings

Importing Videos
There are two ways to import  videos and images, I choice to use the media browers.

Editing

There are total 23 videos, to minize the videos, I used the trim tool, as you can see, the timeline has lots bits from different video. Triming are done to get rid of unwanted bits so that the video matches the song.

Transitions are added to make the video look more professional and smooth, most of my trainsitions are the Cross Dissolve, this can be found in the Effects menu

Titles are added for DVD information

Some Video are too big, so I made the scale smaller.

The video are exported to Quicktime video file.

DVD Cover Middle

As for the middle,, the background are the smae pattern as the DVD Front and Back cover, and just have a simple DVD title.

DVD Back Cover Part 3 (Last Part)

I have decided to make a background with their pictures for the DVD information, is btter to make the images opacity as 40%, this way all the writing on it can be read easily. They are 8 seperate images I had put togetehr.

The DVD information are all in a rianbow colour format, this is to make it look colourful. Other DVD information are all included underneath and under that are the barcode and the sponsors and their company name.

DVD Front Cover Part 4 (Last Part)

The four corncers of the Front Cover seems abit empty, so I decided to place images of all the members together on every corncer, All images has white strokes and a shadow to it, I made the drop shadow as 16 px because this would make it more standout and looks like it's popping up.

Also, I had made a logo for the DVD Cover and DVD Layout, this logo will also be used in the Video, as you can see now, the title had been replaced by the logo in the middle. The "DVD Video" logo are also placed on the right bottom corncer like a norm al DVD cover.

Some images are too dark, so I used the Levels and Vibrance tool in to make it brighter. As for the images for each member, soft light are used and are then placed on to the cover.

DVD Back Cover Part 2

For the top and bottom, I am going to put pictures and names of the members there, 4 members at the top and the other 4 at the bottm, the order of the pictures are ordered as their status in their group. I am going to use pictures from their concert. Their pictures are going to be placed in a cicrle, the colour of the circle depends on their represented colours, as for their name, it will have a shadow and a stroke, the colour of the font are also depening on their own represented colours, and for the stroke, I have made it 5 pixels and the colour are a lighter colour of the members colour, so it's more easy to read from far.

DVD Front Cover Part 3

I've had made a title in the middle of the cover, the group name is Japanese writing then the group name in English, and then the DVD tile at the bottom.

The reason that I have added storkes, is that it would make them more stand out from the background. The colour red, pink and blue can be easily be read from distance againist the colourful background.

It seems that the space in the corners don't look good, it seems there's too many sapce, so I decided to add some more pictures, this time it will be group pictures. All 4 pictures has a white stroke and a shadow on them, the shadow distance is 16, this is so that it's more stand-out and will have a pop-out of the cover effect.

DVD Back Cover Part 1

My DVD Back Cover are going to be portrait, because this will then display the DVD information properly and again looks more prefessional as not many DVD back cover are landscape.

The pattern of the background are the same as the front cover, but this time I've added purple, so that it's different from the front cover.

The back cover will also include each member individual image of them but this time, differtent from the front cover, the order of the photos are placed by their status from their group, starting from the colour yellow, their leader of the group and images will be from their previous concert, because on the back of a DVD cover, they always put preview pictures of whats on the DVD, since my DVD will be about their concert too so I've chose to use their concert photos, but this time instead using square, their photo will be in a circle, so that it aparts from the front cover.

DVD Label Part 1

The idea of the members having represented colours are also going to be used on the DVD Label. Guidelines are used for accuarate measurements.
At first, I've divided the DVD Label into 8 bits by using the line tour and using the colours that represents each member, also the order of the member are lined up by thei position in their group, starting from yellow, as the leader.

I searched for pictures of them in their represented colours and here is what I found. Since there are 8 members, the DVD Label are divided equally.

Here are the original pictures

DVD Front Cover Part 2

I've been searching for images of them on the internet, I've decided to find pictures of them with white background because this will make them stand out on a colourful background.

Each member are divided in a square and are placed side by side the DVD cover, this then leave the middle blank, so that I can input other things such as group name and DVD Title.

It still seems are bit odd, so I added a stroke round each members photo, each colour on each members photo are their represented colours.

DVD Front Cover Part1

As I have mentioned before, my DVD Front Cover will be landscape, here is the background of the front cover.

As you can see these colours are very bright, the reason for this is because bright and colourful background are more eye catching and you can from it that this DVD it's funny and a happy DVD to watch.

The background was made by using patterns I found on the internet and overlapped it together, I've decided to overlap the colours and the lines are diagonal rather than using 1 colour and keeps the line vertical or horizontal  because it looks more prefessional this way.

Planning

I started doing my DVD cover and DVD label  in Adobe Photoshop CS5. The image size for my DVD cover is  278mm wide (272mm + 3mm left edge + 3mm right edge) and 190mm high (184mm + 3mm bottom + 3mm top) , the extra 3mm on each side is the bleed area. Resolution has set to 300 pixels/inch. Guidelines are used for accuarate measurements.

As for the DVD label, is 118mm and 42mm for the centre point, resolution is also set to 300 pixels/inch.

I have decided to do a love/comedy film, so I have started to think about the colour theme, I went on to http://www.colorjack.com/ to serach for colour theme and these are the colour themes that I like.

Ideas for my project

I choose to promote a japanese group call Morning Musume.
The title of my DVD it's going to be called "DVD Magazine Vol. 30", this group occastionally make these DVD to show behind the scenes of their music video making, unseen cuts from concert and sometimes special end of year interview, and they are called "DVD Magazine Vol...", so I chose to follow that.
This DVD is going to have unseen cuts from their previous DVD Magazine, NG scenes from the making of their music video (41st - 44th Sigle), special interview and preview of them in Hawaii. All these information will be on the DVD back cover.
I am going to use videos of them in the past and join them together in my promotional video, the videos will contain all the things I've said above.
Morning Musume has 8 members and each member represents a colour, I am going to use these colours on my DVD cover.
My DVD front cover will be landscape, because this way I can have more space to introduce each member as well as it will look more eye-catching.

Here are some examples of the DVD covers.
